Tourists visiting Manas National Park will no longer be able to enjoy river rafting and elephant safari activities from June 1, as park authorities have announced the suspension of both attractions for the current tourist season.
The decision was confirmed by Pranjal Talukdar, Range Officer of the Bansbari Range of Manas National Park.
According to park officials, the suspension has been implemented due to the onset of the monsoon season, which causes the water level of the Beki River to rise significantly. The seasonal closure is also intended to provide a peaceful environment for wildlife and reduce disturbances during a sensitive period for animals.
Officials stated that the annual monsoon closure helps create safer and more suitable conditions for the park’s wildlife. The move is part of ongoing conservation efforts aimed at protecting the rich biodiversity of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Pranjal Talukdar said that wildlife, including black panthers and other animals with their young, are frequently sighted in different parts of the park during this period. Ensuring their safety and minimizing human interference remain key priorities for the forest department.
He added that maintaining a secure habitat for wildlife would ultimately contribute to the long-term growth of tourism in the park.
Located in Assam, Manas National Park is one of India’s most important protected areas and is known for its diverse wildlife, scenic landscapes, and adventure tourism activities, including elephant safaris and river rafting.
The suspension of these activities will remain in effect during the monsoon period, with tourism operations expected to resume after weather conditions improve and the new tourist season begins.
