The much-awaited Tezpur Litchi Festival 2026 will be held on June 6 and 7, showcasing the region’s renowned litchi cultivation and highlighting efforts to strengthen the horticulture sector in Sonitpur district.
As part of the preparations for the festival, district officials and experts held discussions on measures aimed at expanding litchi production, improving market access for farmers, and enhancing the national and international recognition of Tezpur’s famed litchis.
The review and planning exercise was attended by senior officials, including Dr. Dipankar Chaharia, Senior Director, Social Transformation and Strategic Alliance at TERI, Manish Kumar Pandey, National Coordinator of the Small Grants Programme (SGP), Assistant Commissioner Arnav Barkataki, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer Dr. Zakir Hussain, and other departmental representatives.
During the visit, the team discussed cluster-based development strategies, sustainable cultivation practices, and initiatives aimed at strengthening the overall litchi value chain in Sonitpur district.
Officials emphasized the importance of improving market linkages for litchi growers, increasing farmer participation in value-added activities, and creating greater awareness about the unique qualities of Tezpur litchis.
The upcoming festival is expected to serve as a platform for promoting local agricultural products, connecting farmers with buyers, and showcasing the district’s horticultural potential. Efforts are also being made to position Tezpur litchis as a distinctive agricultural brand with wider national and international recognition.
