Dulal Pegu has been removed from the post of Secretary of the Assam Legislative Assembly on the final day of the ongoing Assembly session.
Assembly Speaker Ranjeet Kumar Dass issued the order for Pegu’s removal with immediate effect amid allegations of irregularities.
Following the decision, the responsibility of the Assembly Secretary has been assigned to Additional Secretary Rajib Bhattacharya with immediate effect.
According to reports, Dulal Pegu was originally scheduled to retire in January 2024. However, his tenure had been extended multiple times by previous Assembly Speakers, allowing him to continue in service beyond his retirement date.
The latest action by the Assembly Speaker comes amid growing scrutiny regarding administrative functioning and alleged irregularities linked to the Assembly Secretariat.
