In a significant move aimed at easing urban mobility and reducing commuting costs, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has announced that parking for two-wheelers and three-wheelers will be completely free across all GMC notified parking zones beginning June 1, 2025.
The announcement, highlighted through an official promotional campaign with the tagline “Drive Easy Park Free,” represents a major policy shift in the city’s approach to managing parking infrastructure and addressing urban congestion.
Guwahati Mayor Mrigen Sarania confirmed the development through a social media post on Friday, stating: “The city rides forward with #GMC — parking made free and easy! No more parking fees! @gmc_guwahati brings you stress-free rides in notified zones!”

This initiative is expected to benefit thousands of two-wheeler owners and auto-rickshaw drivers across Guwahati, where motorcycles, scooters, and three-wheeled vehicles constitute a significant portion of daily traffic. The city has witnessed substantial growth in the number of registered two-wheelers in recent years, making parking a growing concern for residents and city administrators alike.
