The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, in collaboration with the 21 Mountain Artillery Brigade, commemorated the first anniversary of Operation SINDOOR with a special event held on campus on May 29.
Organised by the institute’s Diversity and Equality Cell, the programme featured a lecture by Brigadier G. S. Grewal, Sena Medal (SC), who shared insights on leadership, decision-making under pressure, and the importance of resilience in addressing emerging challenges.
During his address, Brig. Grewal emphasized that national security in the modern era extends beyond traditional military domains and increasingly involves areas such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, satellite systems, maritime security, and critical infrastructure.
“In the rapidly changing global landscape, every Indian citizen is an integral part of national security. Fields such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, satellites, maritime domains, and critical infrastructure are the new-age battlefields that require constant vigilance and protection,” he said.
The Army commander stressed the importance of awareness, preparedness, and active participation by young citizens, entrepreneurs, technologists, and cyber professionals in safeguarding national interests.
Highlighting the value of teamwork and innovation, Brig. Grewal noted that educational institutions play a vital role in nation-building by nurturing future leaders and fostering technological advancement.
He also underscored the significance of India’s youthful demographic advantage, describing the country’s young and talented population as one of its greatest strengths.
“India’s greatest strength lies in its young and intelligent human resource, which will continue to play a defining role in safeguarding the nation in the years ahead. With the support of emerging technologies, India today is more secure than it has been in decades, but continued vigilance remains essential,” he said.
A video tribute dedicated to the personnel associated with Operation SINDOOR was also screened during the event, paying homage to their service, dedication, and sacrifice.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dilip Boro in the presence of Anil Saikia and members of the IIT Guwahati community.
The event provided students, researchers, and faculty members with an opportunity to engage with a distinguished military leader and gain broader perspectives on leadership, innovation, national security, and the role of institutions in contributing to the country’s development.
