More than four decades after the release of the iconic Assamese film Kokadeuta, Nati Aru Hati, its much-awaited sequel, Kokadeuta, Nati Aru Hati 2, is set to hit theatres this July.
The original film, directed by Nip Barua and produced by N.C. Dutta under NC Productions, was released on November 18, 1983. Widely regarded as a classic of Assamese cinema, the film portrayed rural Assamese life and left a lasting impression on generations of viewers.
Notably, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had appeared in the original film as the grandson of Mouzadar Sarvesh Saikia. The sequel brings back the legacy of the beloved story in a new form for contemporary audiences.
Produced by Pride East Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. under the leadership of Chairman and Managing Director Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, the film is directed by Biswajit Bora.
Speaking at the film’s promotional event in Jorhat, director Biswajit Bora described the project as both exciting and challenging. He said the team had worked carefully to preserve the spirit and legacy of the original film while creating a story that would appeal to a new generation of viewers.
According to Bora, the sequel seeks to maintain the emotional connection audiences have with the 1983 classic while encouraging younger viewers to revisit the original film. He expressed confidence that the film would be appreciated by audiences across generations.
Veteran actor Pranjal Saikia also reflected on his association with both films, noting that only two actors from the original cast are connected to the sequel — himself and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He remarked that while Sarma portrayed the grandson in the original film, he appears in a different role in the sequel.
The film’s music has also generated interest among audiences. Popular singer Zubeen Garg has lent his voice to the song Hasnahana, written by Robchan Lal Barua. Singer Nahid Afrin has performed another song titled Jeevan Jonak, expressing her commitment to preserving the emotional essence associated with the film.
Actress Preety Kongana and actor Utpal Das also expressed gratitude for being part of the project and praised the efforts of producer Riniki Bhuyan Sharma in bringing the sequel to life.
Apart from Pranjal Saikia, the film features a cast that includes Jatin Bora, Utpal Das, Yashasvi Bhuyan, Kamal Lochan, Preety Kongana, Siddharth Sharma, and child artist Ayush.
The cinematography has been handled by Pradeep Daimari. The film has been shot across several locations, including Jorhat, Titabor, Guwahati, and Ladakh.
The trailer launch and promotional event held in Jorhat was attended by several prominent personalities and cultural figures, reflecting the excitement surrounding the return of one of Assamese cinema’s most cherished stories.
