Assam Minister for Finance, Environment & Forest, and Mines & Minerals, Jayanta Mallabaruah, on Tuesday chaired a joint review meeting with officials from multiple departments to assess measures aimed at preventing revenue leakages and strengthening the state's revenue collection mechanisms.

The meeting brought together officials from the Finance Department, Forest Department, Mines and Minerals Department, Transport Department, and the Pollution Control Board. Discussions focused on revenue leakages, GST rationalisation, freight monitoring and strategies to improve compliance across sectors.

Emphasising the importance of efficient revenue management, the minister stated that every rupee due to the state must reach the state exchequer. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts among departments to ensure transparency, accountability and effective monitoring of revenue-generating activities.

According to officials, the review examined existing systems and explored ways to enhance inter-departmental coordination. The discussions also highlighted the role of technology-driven monitoring mechanisms in tracking compliance, identifying irregularities and improving revenue collection processes.

The meeting further focused on targeted interventions aimed at plugging gaps in enforcement and streamlining monitoring systems related to transportation, mining activities and other sectors contributing to state revenues.

The Assam government has been placing increased emphasis on strengthening fiscal management and improving resource mobilisation to support developmental initiatives across the state. Officials said efforts are being made to modernise monitoring systems and ensure that revenue collection processes remain efficient and transparent.

The minister noted that stronger coordination between departments, combined with data-driven oversight and improved compliance measures, would help enhance revenue generation and contribute to Assam's long-term development goals.
