Emphasising the cultural importance of the tradition, he said Goru Bihu reflects the deep-rooted connection between Assamese society, nature and everyday life. He also offered prayers for a bountiful harvest and prosperity for farmers across the state.
Rongali Bihu, also known as Bohag Bihu, is one of Assam’s most vibrant festivals and is celebrated in mid-April, coinciding with the first month of the Assamese calendar, Bohag. The festival is marked by traditional music, dance, and community feasts, bringing people together in a spirit of joy and celebration.
The term “Rongali” is derived from the word “Rong,” meaning happiness and festivity, symbolising the lively and colourful nature of the celebrations.
