The latest milestone adds to the long list of premium tea records set at the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre over the years. GTAC, established on September 25, 1970, is regarded as one of the busiest tea trading centres in the world and is known for handling the largest volume of CTC tea auctions globally.
Several Assam teas have previously achieved record-breaking prices at GTAC. Among them, Manohari Gold Tea from Manohari Tea Estate in Dibrugarh set the highest-ever public auction record by fetching ₹99,999 per kilogram on December 14, 2021. Earlier, Golden Butterfly Tea from Dikom Tea Estate in Upper Assam had created a record after being sold for ₹75,000 per kilogram in August 2019.
Other premium teas that drew significant attention at auctions include Orthodox Golden Tea Tips from Maijan Estate, which fetched ₹70,501 per kilogram, and Purple Tea from Arunachal Pradesh, which was sold for ₹24,501 per kilogram in 2018.
In recent years, GTAC has also witnessed strong performances from CTC and bought leaf factory teas. Hookmool Tea recorded an all-time high price of ₹751 per kilogram during the 2024–25 financial year, while Bejopathar Tea from Dhemaji district achieved a record ₹471 per kilogram for bought leaf factory tea.
The Guwahati Tea Auction Centre was established through the combined efforts of the Assam government and stakeholders from the tea industry, including sellers, brokers, buyers, and warehouse operators. The latest achievement by Deckiajuli Tea is being seen as another major boost for Assam’s globally recognised tea sector.
