In a significant recognition of behind-the-scenes efforts in professional cricket, the Assam Cricket Association has announced a cash reward of ₹25 lakh for its curator and ground staff for their role in successfully hosting Indian Premier League matches in challenging weather conditions.
The reward comes as a gesture of appreciation for the team’s “tireless” work in maintaining the ACA Stadium in Barsapara, Guwahati, during a rain-affected stretch of the Indian Premier League season. Despite persistent downpours threatening to disrupt fixtures, the ground staff ensured that matches proceeded with quality playing conditions.

The stadium hosted multiple high-profile matches featuring teams such as Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Continuous rainfall posed a major challenge, but the staff worked round the clock to drain the outfield and protect the pitch, preventing possible washouts.
ACA officials highlighted the professionalism and technical expertise demonstrated under pressure. Association President Taranga Gogoi and Secretary Sanatan Das said the staff’s dedication was instrumental in ensuring smooth conduct of the matches and maintaining the venue’s reputation.
The association noted that such recognition is essential to acknowledge the efforts of those who operate away from the spotlight but play a crucial role in the success of major sporting events.
With Guwahati emerging as a key cricket venue in Northeast India, the ACA’s move sets a benchmark in valuing the contribution of ground staff in high-profile tournaments.
