In a significant development for Karnataka’s electronics manufacturing sector, Foxconn has commenced production of the iPhone 17 at its new facility in Devanahalli, Bengaluru.
This facility is now Foxconn’s second-largest manufacturing unit outside China, established with an investment of approximately Rs 25,000 crore.
Karnataka Industries Minister MB Patil hailed the commencement of production as a pivotal moment for the state. He emphasised that this milestone is not merely about smartphone assembly but reflects Karnataka’s emergence as a global hub for electronics manufacturing. The facility is expected to create thousands of jobs, strengthen supply chains, and bolster India’s export ambitions.
Minister Patil further noted that Apple’s rapid scaling of its India operations underscores Bengaluru’s pivotal role in transforming India into the “iPhone capital of the world.”
He expressed confidence that Foxconn’s operations are on track, reaffirming investor confidence in Karnataka’s robust ecosystem.
The Devanahalli facility, located in the Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR), is designed to accommodate a workforce of 30,000 employees, with dormitories nearing completion. This development signifies Apple’s strategic shift in its global manufacturing strategy, highlighting India’s rising importance as a manufacturing hub.
As production ramps up, the Devanahalli plant is poised to play a crucial role in meeting Apple’s global demand, further solidifying Bengaluru’s status on the global iPhone manufacturing map.
