King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan has written to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, expressing condolences to the people of Assam following the devastating floods that have reportedly claimed more than 100 lives in the state.
In his letter, the Bhutanese King conveyed his solidarity with families affected by the floods and expressed support for Assam during the difficult period. He also assured the state of Bhutan's support in its recovery efforts following the devastating floods.
Responding to the letter, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said he was deeply touched by the King's words of support and solidarity.
Sarma highlighted the close relationship between Assam and Bhutan, describing the ties between the state and the neighbouring kingdom as one of exceptional warmth. He said the relationship had been connected by history, nurtured by geography and strengthened by generations of friendship between the people of Assam and Bhutan.
"The State of Assam and Kingdom of Bhutan share a relationship of exceptional warmth — connected by history, nurtured by geography and strengthened by generations of friendship between our people," Sarma said.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the people of Assam, the Chief Minister thanked King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and the people of Bhutan for standing with the state during the crisis.
"On behalf of the people of Assam, I convey my heartfelt gratitude to His Majesty and the people of Bhutan for standing with us in solidarity and friendship in this difficult hour," Sarma said.
The exchange comes as Assam continues to deal with the impact of severe flooding, which has affected communities across several parts of the state. The floods have resulted in significant loss of life and disruption, prompting relief and recovery efforts in affected areas.
