In a significant crackdown on insurgent activities, joint operations by central and Manipur security forces over the past 24 hours have resulted in the arrest of three senior insurgents and the recovery of a substantial cache of arms and ammunition across multiple districts in Manipur, officials confirmed on Thursday.
In twin operations conducted in Kakching and Imphal West districts, security forces apprehended two cadres of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party – People’s War Group (KCP-PWG), identified as Oinam Tomba Singh, alias Herojit, aged 57, and Lourembam Suresh, alias Mairongba or Toto, aged 47.
Based on their on-the-spot interrogation, a subsequent operation led to the arrest of Oinam Hemanjit Singh, alias Taibangsemba, a 50-year-old cadre of the banned People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak – Progressive (PREPAK-Pro). The arrest was made in the Meitram area under Nambol Police Station in Bishnupur district.
In a separate operation on Wednesday, a joint team raided an abandoned militant camp in the Baruni Hills of Imphal East district, recovering a .303 rifle with a magazine, two 9mm pistols with magazines, a 12-bore single-barrel gun, three No. 36 hand grenades, two tube launchers, one 12-bore live cartridge, two rounds of 9mm live ammunition, a wireless set with a charger, a Mark 3 A2 grenade, two arming rings, two detonators, two safety pins, and three mobile phones.
The coordinated operations mark a major blow to insurgent groups in the region, with security forces continuing efforts to dismantle their networks. Authorities have praised the joint efforts as a critical step toward restoring peace and stability in Manipur.
