The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a significant weather alert, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya today. According to the weather agency, the entire Northeast region will experience thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds that are expected to persist for the next seven days.
The heavy precipitation warning comes as part of a broader weather update that highlights contrasting conditions across different parts of the country, with southern states also expected to receive substantial rainfall while northern regions face heat waves and dust storms.
Southern India is set to experience similar wet conditions, with the IMD predicting heavy rainfall across multiple states and union territories including Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Interior Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Telangana today.
Meanwhile, western parts of the country face entirely different weather patterns. The meteorological department has warned that West Rajasthan will experience dust-raising winds at isolated places, creating challenging visibility conditions for residents and travelers in the region.
In stark contrast to the wet conditions expected in the Northeast and South, several northern states are bracing for intense heat. The IMD has forecasted heat wave conditions in isolated pockets of Jammu and Kashmir and southwest Uttar Pradesh, advising residents to take appropriate precautions.
Eastern states are not spared from uncomfortable weather either, with Bihar and Odisha expected to endure hot and humid conditions, a combination that can be particularly oppressive and potentially dangerous for vulnerable populations.
This diverse range of weather phenomena occurring simultaneously across the country highlights India’s complex climate patterns, especially during the pre-monsoon period when different regions often experience dramatically different conditions.
