The Border Security Force (BSF) has lost another brave soldier in Operation Sindoor, as Constable (General Duty) Deepak Chimngakham succumbed to injuries sustained in cross-border firing by the Pakistan Rangers in the R S Pura sector of Jammu during the night of May 9-10. He passed away in the early hours of May 11. Deepak, only 25 years old, hailed from Manipur.
This tragic incident comes a day after BSF Sub-Inspector Md Imtiaz, also injured in the same firing episode along with six others, laid down his life in the line of duty on May 10. The firing incident has deeply saddened the force and the nation.
In a heartfelt message on social media, the BSF Jammu unit said, “We salute the supreme sacrifice made by BSF #Braveheart Constable (GD) Deepak Chimngakham in the service of the nation; he sustained fatal injuries during cross-border firing along the International Boundary in R S Pura area, District Jammu on 10 May 2025, and attained martyrdom on 11 May 2025. DG BSF and all ranks express their deepest condolences to his family.” A wreath-laying ceremony will be conducted with full military honours at the BSF Frontier Headquarters in Paloura, Jammu.

Former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh paid tribute to Deepak, calling him a “proud son of Manipur” and highlighting his dedication and courage as a reflection of the strong sense of duty that characterizes the Meitei community.
Meanwhile, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar extended condolences over the martyrdom of SI Md Imtiaz, a native of Saran district. In his message, he said Imtiaz’s “sacrifice will always be remembered with pride and gratitude.” He assured that ex gratia compensation would be provided to his bereaved family per state policy.
Following the intense shelling and drone activity observed along the International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC) until the evening of May 10 — despite a ceasefire understanding being in place — the region has largely remained calm since 4:40 AM on May 11, except a minor incident of small arms fire reported near Uri around 5 PM the same day.
The nation mourns the loss of its brave soldiers, who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the country’s borders.
