Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Thursday said that 14 stranded tourists have been successfully airlifted from Ziro to Naharlagun as rescue operations continue in flood-affected parts of the state.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister informed that the evacuation of another 11 stranded tourists and one patient from Daporijo is currently underway. The ongoing rescue mission is being carried out amid challenging conditions caused by heavy rains and widespread flooding across several districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
Khandu said a total of five helicopter sorties have been conducted jointly by the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the State Civil Aviation Department to evacuate stranded people and provide emergency assistance to affected areas.
The aerial rescue operations form part of the state's broader disaster response following severe floods and landslides that have disrupted road connectivity and left several locations inaccessible. Helicopters have been deployed to transport stranded tourists, patients and essential personnel to safer locations while ensuring that relief efforts continue without interruption.
The state government, in coordination with the Indian Air Force and disaster management agencies, has intensified rescue and relief operations in flood-hit regions. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have assured that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safety of residents and visitors affected by the natural calamity.
Rescue teams remain on high alert as adverse weather conditions continue to impact several parts of Arunachal Pradesh, with evacuation and relief operations expected to continue based on ground requirements.
