Gearing up for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to unleash a political spectacle in Assam, rallying the state’s vibrant populace with a massive rally in Lakhimpur and a high-profile roadshow in Tinsukia and Dibrugarh.
Shah’s eagerness to connect with the people of Assam underscores the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) unwavering commitment to realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of securing a resounding victory in the region, with the party aiming to cross the ‘400 paar’ mark.
“Tomorrow will be in Assam to attend a mega rally in Lakhimpur Lok Sabha and a roadshow in Tinsukia (Dibrugarh Lok Sabha). Assam is set to secure Modi Ji’s goal of ‘400 paar’,” Shah wrote in a post on ‘X’, the social media platform.
The political fervor in Assam has reached a crescendo, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently leading a significant roadshow in Dibrugarh, rallying support for Union Minister and BJP candidate Sarbananda Sonowal. The procession, which saw thousands of BJP supporters congregating, showcased the party’s strength and determination, with the Gayan Bayan sect leading the way and captivating dance performances adding to the spectacle.
In the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the BJP is poised to contest 11 out of 14 seats in Assam, with allies Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and UPPL eyeing two and one seats respectively. The electoral battle will unfold across three phases, with Assam set for another dynamic political showdown on April 19, April 26, and May 7.
Reflecting on past electoral dynamics, the BJP’s stronghold in Assam has steadily increased. In the 2014 polls, the party secured 7 out of 14 seats, a number that surged to 9 in the 2019 elections. Meanwhile, the Congress retained three seats, and the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) clinched one seat, indicating a shifting landscape of political alliances and preferences in the state.
As the political drama unfolds in Assam, all eyes are on the forthcoming elections to gauge the direction of the state’s political trajectory. With Amit Shah’s high-octane rallies and the BJP’s determined push, the battle for Assam’s Lok Sabha seats promises to be a fiercely contested one, with the ruling party aiming to consolidate its stronghold and achieve the Prime Minister’s ambitious ‘400 paar’ goal.
