Two judges of the Supreme Court have raised questions over the lack of proper maintenance of the Kamakhya temple in Assam. The judges said that the Kamakhya temple in Assam was not being maintained properly. They said that cleanliness could not be compromised in any way.

A bench of Justice Ajay Rastogi and Justice CT Ravikumar was hearing a matter related to the maintenance of the temple.

Justice Rastogi said I had gone there during the holidays, and even then, the temple was not properly maintained. This is my personal opinion. But cleanliness cannot be compromised in any way.

Senior advocate Rajeev Dhavan, appearing for the temple, said that this is a case where only a few people have written letters saying that cleanliness is not being taken care of.
He told the court that the maintenance work of the temple was being done by involving expert bodies like the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). The apex court adjourned the hearing of the matter till January 2023 to enable a possible amicable settlement between the two parties.
