Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the 124th episode of his monthly radio program Mann Ki Baat on Sunday, hailed India’s record-breaking performance at the World Police and Fire Games (WPFG) held recently in the United States, and announced that India will host the 2029 edition of the prestigious international sporting event.
The WPFG is a biennial competition that brings together law enforcement, firefighting, and security personnel from around the world. Modi described the event as one of the largest global tournaments after the Olympic Games and emphasized the significance of India being selected as a future host.
“Players from all over the world will come to our country,” the Prime Minister said. “We will showcase to them India’s hospitality and introduce them to our traditional sports culture.”
India achieved a historic milestone at the recently concluded 2025 Games in the U.S., securing nearly 600 medals and finishing among the top three nations out of 71 participating countries. Modi praised the exceptional efforts of the country’s uniformed personnel, whose performance on the international stage reflected their commitment and physical excellence.
“Proud of those who made India proud,” Modi said. “The hard work of the security and armed forces personnel who are always at the forefront of the service of the country bore fruits.”
He extended his congratulations to all participants, underscoring the importance of the Games in promoting camaraderie, fitness, and discipline among law enforcement and emergency services worldwide.
India’s hosting of the 2029 edition is expected to provide a significant platform for the country to strengthen global sporting ties and exhibit its growing stature as a destination for international sports. Modi noted that the increasing frequency of such events in India reflects the nation’s vibrant sports culture and organizational capabilities.
The announcement has been welcomed by the sporting and security communities alike, with many viewing it as a tribute to the dedication and achievements of India’s police and fire personnel on and off the field.
