Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated Semicon India 2025 at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi, marking a major push to accelerate India’s emergence as a global hub for semiconductor design, manufacturing, and technology development.
Addressing the inaugural session, Modi said India’s semiconductor mission is critical for building a robust, resilient, and sustainable ecosystem that will drive innovation, digital transformation, and economic growth. He underlined the government’s commitment to advancing semiconductor fabrication, chip design, and research capabilities, adding that India’s young talent and policy incentives give it a unique edge.
The three-day conference, being held from September 2–4, features sessions on semiconductor fabs and advanced packaging projects, infrastructure readiness, smart manufacturing, R&D in artificial intelligence, and state-level policy implementation. It will also showcase progress under the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) scheme, the role of start-ups, and international cooperation.
According to organizers, the event has drawn over 20,750 attendees, including 2,500 delegates from 48 countries, more than 150 speakers (with 50 global leaders), and 350+ exhibitors. Country pavilions, workforce development zones, and startup showcases form key highlights of the exhibition.
On September 3, the Prime Minister will also participate in a CEOs Roundtable, engaging with top global industry leaders to chart investment opportunities and collaborative pathways for India’s semiconductor growth.
Semicon conferences are part of India’s ongoing efforts to position itself as a critical player in global chip supply chains. Previous editions were held in Bengaluru (2022), Gandhinagar (2023), and Greater Noida (2024).
