The Government of India has officially disclosed the names of six armed forces personnel who lost their lives during Operation Sindoor, the military operation launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. The six bravehearts will now be honoured with permanent inscriptions at the National War Memorial in New Delhi.

The fallen personnel include Indian Army soldiers Subedar Major Pawan Kumar, Rifleman Sunil Kumar, Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar, Agniveer Murali Naik and Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh, along with Indian Air Force Sergeant Surendra Kumar. They were killed while carrying out operational duties during the cross-border military action in May last year.

The government released their names as part of the annual list of defence personnel who made the supreme sacrifice during military operations in 2025. Their names will be engraved on the Tyag Chakra, a dedicated section of the National War Memorial that commemorates every member of the armed forces who has laid down their life in service of the nation after Independence.

The Tyag Chakra consists of 16 concentric granite walls bearing the names, ranks and units of fallen soldiers, serving as a permanent tribute to their courage and sacrifice.

Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 last year after the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in which 26 civilians were killed. During the operation, Indian armed forces carried out strikes on what the government described as terrorist infrastructure located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

The military action led to retaliatory attacks from Pakistan, including drone strikes, aerial engagements and cross-border shelling, resulting in a four-day conflict that concluded on May 10.

The operation's name, "Sindoor," symbolised the government's response to the killing of civilians in the Pahalgam attack. The term refers to the traditional vermilion worn by married Hindu women and was chosen to reflect the loss suffered by families in the attack.

With their names set to become part of the National War Memorial, the six Operation Sindoor personnel will be remembered among the nation's fallen heroes, ensuring that their sacrifice remains etched in India's military history.
