Contestants from the 72nd Miss World pageant received a unique cultural immersion as they visited the iconic Buddhavanam at Nagarjuna Sagar on the eve of Buddha Purnima. The special tour, organized specifically for participants representing countries from the Asian and Oceanic regions, provided the international visitors with insights into Telangana’s rich Buddhist heritage.
According to pageant organizers, the visit was strategically planned to showcase the diverse cultural heritage of Telangana, offering the contestants “a deeper connection to the region’s profound spiritual and historical legacy.” The timing of the visit on the eve of Buddha Purnima, one of Buddhism’s most sacred observances commemorating Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, and passing, added special significance to the cultural experience.
During their visit, the international guests explored several key areas of Buddhavanam, which forms part of an integrated Buddhist Circuit designed to showcase the life and teachings of Gautama Buddha. Their immersive tour included:
- Buddhacharitha Vanam: An area specifically designed to depict the life journey of Buddha through artistic representations and informative displays
- Jataka Park: A section highlighting the popular stories from Buddha’s previous lives that contain moral teachings
- Dhyana Vanam: A meditation space that embodies the spiritual practices central to Buddhist philosophy
- Stupa Vanam: Home to the imposing Maha Stupa, an architectural marvel representing Buddhist spiritual values
- Buddhist Heritage Museum: A collection of artifacts and information chronicling the region’s Buddhist history
