Prime Minister of Japan Sanae Takaichi will undertake an official visit to New Delhi from July 1 to 3 to participate in the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The high-level visit is expected to further strengthen the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership while reviewing the full spectrum of bilateral cooperation.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the summit will provide an opportunity for both leaders to assess the progress of existing collaborations and exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest. The visit will be Prime Minister Takaichi's first official visit to India and follows Prime Minister Modi's visit to Tokyo in August 2025 for the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit.

Ahead of the summit, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the growing partnership between Assam and Japan under India's Act East Policy. In a post on X, Sarma said he had received a phone call from Japan's Ambassador to India, H.E. Ono Keiichi, who reaffirmed the Japanese government's commitment to deepening its ongoing engagement with Assam.

The Chief Minister said both sides agreed to strengthen collaboration across several priority sectors, including electronics, semiconductors, infrastructure, manufacturing and entrepreneurship. He added that Assam looks forward to engaging with Japanese enterprises and institutions in the coming days to enhance investments and create greater economic opportunities for the people of the state.

The upcoming summit is expected to further reinforce India-Japan ties across strategic, economic and technological sectors while complementing efforts to expand cooperation with northeastern states under the Act East Policy. Assam has increasingly emerged as a key partner in India's engagement with Japan, particularly in infrastructure development, industrial investment and skill development initiatives.

The visit is also expected to reaffirm the shared commitment of India and Japan to deepen their long-standing strategic partnership and promote regional stability and sustainable economic growth.
