The Rouse Avenue Court in New Delhi has reserved its verdict in the high-profile sexual harassment case involving former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The judgment is scheduled to be delivered on August 3.

After concluding the final round of arguments, the special court reserved its order and granted both the prosecution and the defence two weeks to submit their written arguments.

Representing the complainant wrestlers, the prosecution urged the court to award strict punishment, arguing that the allegations were serious and supported by witness testimonies and evidence collected during the investigation.

The defence, however, denied all allegations, describing the case as politically motivated and based on fabricated claims. It sought Brij Bhushan's acquittal, arguing that there was no credible evidence to establish the charges.

According to the Delhi Police chargesheet, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh faces allegations of stalking, inappropriate physical contact, intimidation and threatening the careers of women wrestlers. In May 2024, the court found sufficient prima facie evidence to frame charges and proceed with the trial.

The case also names former WFI secretary Vinod Tomar as a co-accused. The court is expected to pronounce its verdict against both accused on August 3.

The controversy first came to national attention in 2023 when several prominent wrestlers, including Olympic medallists, staged a prolonged protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, accusing Brij Bhushan of sexual harassment. Following the intervention of the Supreme Court, the Delhi Police registered an FIR and initiated an investigation.
