The seven accused in the Zubeen Garg death case will be produced virtually before the Chief Judicial Magistrate court on Tuesday, with CID teams set to provide chargesheet copies at two jails where the accused are lodged.
The CJM had initially directed physical production on December 16, but allowed virtual appearance after CID cited law and order concerns.
The Special Investigation Team probing the music icon’s death submitted a voluminous chargesheet naming seven accused, with four facing murder charges.
Those booked for murder include Northeast India Festival chief organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, Zubeen’s manager Siddhartha Sharma, bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, and co-singer Amritprava Mahanta.
Zubeen’s cousin Sandipan Garg, a suspended Assam Police officer, has been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Two personal security officers—Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya—face charges of criminal conspiracy and criminal breach of trust.
The SIT examined more than 300 witnesses during its investigation into the singer’s death. CID teams will be present at Baksa and Haflong jails on Tuesday to hand over chargesheet copies to the accused.
Zubeen Garg died under mysterious circumstances on September 19 while swimming in the sea in Singapore, where he had travelled to perform at the Northeast India Festival. The beloved Assamese singer’s sudden death shocked fans across the region and prompted demands for a thorough investigation.
