Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday condoled the passing of PG Baruah, Editor and Managing Director of The Assam Tribune Group, remembering his contributions to journalism and his passion for Assam’s progress.

“Saddened by the passing away of Shri PG Baruah Ji, Editor and Managing Director of The Assam Tribune Group,” PM Modi wrote. “He will be remembered for his contribution to the media world.”
The Prime Minister highlighted Baruah’s dedication beyond journalism, noting he “was also passionate about furthering Assam’s progress and popularising the state’s culture.”
“My thoughts are with his family and admirers. Om Shanti,” the condolence message concluded.
PG Baruah helmed The Assam Tribune Group, one of the oldest and most respected English-language newspaper establishments in Northeast India. The Assam Tribune has served as a crucial voice for the region since its founding, covering local, national, and international affairs for readers across the northeastern states.
Under Baruah’s leadership, the publication maintained its standing as a trusted news source while adapting to the changing media landscape.
Beyond his editorial role, Baruah was known for his commitment to promoting Assamese heritage and advocating for the state’s development. His passing marks the loss of a significant figure in both regional journalism and cultural preservation.
