Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the NDA’s sweeping victory in Assam’s 2025 Panchayat Elections, calling it a historic mandate reflecting public trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development-driven governance. Shah thanked Assam’s voters for their support, linking the win to Modi’s “people-first policies” that he said brought peace and progress to the state.
In a social media post, Shah congratulated Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, state BJP chief Dilip Saikia, and party workers for spreading Modi’s vision at the grassroots. The BJP and its ally, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), won 300 of 397 Zilla Parishad seats and 1,436 of 2,192 Anchalik Panchayat seats across 27 districts.
CM Sarma called the results a strong endorsement of the NDA’s welfare initiatives and a sign of growing public confidence ahead of the 2026 state polls. He noted the coalition secured 76.22% of Zilla Parishad votes and 66% in Anchalik Panchayat seats, marking a 26% rise in support compared to 2018. The Congress won 72 Zilla Parishad and 21% of Anchalik seats.
Sarma highlighted victories in Hindu-majority areas and unexpected gains in five minority-dominated seats, signaling broader acceptance of the BJP’s agenda. He termed the outcome a “pro-incumbency wave” and announced plans to host a panchayat conference in Guwahati, inviting Amit Shah and BJP chief JP Nadda.
The elections, held in two phases (May 2 and 7), saw the NDA dominate districts like Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, and Jorhat. Sarma credited the win to Modi’s leadership and thanked senior BJP leaders for their campaign support. He expressed optimism about replicating this success in the 2026 Assembly polls, citing rising voter trust in the BJP’s schemes and governance.
