A rare Bengal Slow Loris was rescued after being found injured on the roadside in Assam's Karbi Anglong district and was later released back into its natural habitat following treatment by the Forest Department.

According to Forest Department officials, the endangered primate was spotted on Wednesday night near the Bakaliaghat Police Station in the Bakaliaghat area by local residents. The animal was reportedly lying injured on the roadside when it was noticed, prompting immediate rescue efforts.

Officials said environmentalist Chandni Saha rescued the Bengal Slow Loris with the assistance of the local police before handing it over to the Forest Department for medical care.

"The locals spotted the Bengal Slow Loris lying injured on the roadside near Bakaliaghat police station. The injured animal was rescued by environmentalist Chandni Saha and handed over to us with the help of the police," a Forest Department official said.

After receiving necessary treatment, the Bengal Slow Loris recovered and was subsequently released into the forest, officials confirmed.

The successful rescue and rehabilitation highlight the coordinated efforts of local residents, environmentalists, the police and the Forest Department in protecting Assam's rich wildlife. The Bengal Slow Loris is a rare and protected species, and timely intervention ensured the injured animal could safely return to its natural habitat.
