A tragic turn has emerged in the Lok Guwahati hit-and-run case involving Assamese film actress Nandini Kashyap, as the victim, Samiul Haque, succumbed to his injuries early today. The 22-year-old municipal worker was shifted to Apollo Hospital for advanced treatment on Monday but died less than 24 hours later.
The accident occurred around midnight between Saturday and Sunday in the Dakhingaon area of Guwahati, where Haque, an employee of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), was part of a night crew repairing street lights. He was allegedly struck by a speeding car driven by the actress, who, according to eyewitnesses, was traveling at over 120 km/h at the time of the incident.
Kashyap reportedly fled the scene without offering assistance, triggering outrage among bystanders and fellow workers. Members of the GMC team chased the vehicle and tracked it down to an apartment complex in Kahilipara, where Kashyap allegedly tried to conceal the car.
A confrontation ensued at the apartment, during which the actress is alleged to have assaulted a bystander who was recording the incident on his mobile phone.
Haque was initially admitted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in critical condition, suffering from severe head injuries, multiple fractures in both legs, and broken bones in his thigh and arm. Despite efforts by doctors and a last-ditch attempt to save him at Apollo Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
