A passenger at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA), Guwahati, was reunited with an unattended bag containing foreign currency worth more than ₹10.14 lakh after a coordinated effort by airport authorities and security personnel.
According to a statement issued by Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), the incident took place on June 26 during routine security screening at Terminal 1, when personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) detected an unattended bag at the Automated Tray Retrieval System (ATRS).
Following standard security procedures, the bag was secured and handed over to the airport's Lost & Found team for further verification.
The bag contained 10,720 US dollars, 175 Chinese yuan, medicines and other personal belongings.
Airport officials said the passenger's identity was established using the name written on the bag and information available on the medicine strips. After reviewing CCTV footage, the Lost & Found team confirmed that the passenger had already boarded a flight to Hyderabad.
Working in coordination with the CISF and Hyderabad airport authorities, the passenger was successfully traced. After verifying ownership, the bag was handed over to an authorised representative.
AAHL said the incident highlights the vigilance, professionalism and passenger-centric approach followed at LGBIA to ensure the safety and security of travellers.
The airport has continued to strengthen passenger services following the inauguration of its new Terminal 2 in February 2026, further enhancing its role as the primary aviation gateway to Northeast India.
