The Assam Cricket Association has suspended four players for allegedly attempting match-fixing during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025, bringing a rare domestic cricket corruption case to light.
Amit Sinha, Eshan Ahmed, Aman Tripathi, and Abhishek Thakuri face suspension after an FIR was registered against them at the Guwahati Crime Branch on Friday, December 12.
The suspended players were not directly involved in fixing matches during gameplay. Instead, they allegedly attempted to instigate and influence other members of the Assam squad participating in the tournament held in Lucknow from November 26 to December 8.
“All four players have represented Assam at different levels,” the Assam Cricket Association stated. “They are accused of attempting to influence and provoke some members of the Assam squad participating in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025.”
The Board of Control for Cricket in India remained in close contact with the Assam Cricket Association throughout the investigation. BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit conducted its own probe into the allegations.
Following the ACU investigation, the ACA initiated criminal proceedings against the four cricketers, resulting in the FIR registration.
The case marks a significant corruption incident in Indian domestic cricket, where match-fixing allegations at the state level remain relatively uncommon compared to international or franchise leagues.
The suspensions and criminal proceedings signal a firm stance by cricket authorities against any attempts to compromise the integrity of domestic tournaments.
