Authorities have identified the arrested individuals as Bodir Ali (57), son of late Jabber Ali; Hazarat Ali (58), son of Riaj Uddin; Tara Mia (36), son of Rupchand Ali; Shajamal Mia (42), son of late Hazarat Ali; and Jahangir Alom (32), son of late Amor Ali. All five are Muslim residents of the Khakilamari area of Lakhipur, located approximately 175 kilometers west of Guwahati.
“A case has been registered and strict action is being taken to ensure all such elements face the full force of the law,” Chief Minister Sarma emphasized in his statement.
The Goalpara incident mirrors recent occurrences in the neighboring Dhubri district, where police discovered a cow’s head near a Hanuman temple on two consecutive nights. In response to those incidents, authorities have already arrested 38 people and implemented stringent security measures, including shoot-at-sight orders for nighttime violations.
On June 8, Chief Minister Sarma had revealed that cattle were allegedly slaughtered illegally at several locations during the Eid festival, with portions of the meat deliberately thrown at multiple sites across Assam.
