Assam has received a significant boost on the international front, with European Union (EU) member states revising their travel advisories and removing restrictive guidance for their citizens visiting the state.
The development was announced by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who described the move as an encouraging sign for the state's growing global engagement and a strong endorsement of its improving connectivity, stability and investment potential.
According to the Chief Minister, the revision of travel advisories comes shortly after the visit of a delegation of EU diplomats to Assam. He said the decision reflects growing international confidence in the state and is expected to pave the way for stronger ties between Assam and European nations.
“After Australia and Japan, EU member states have now revised their travel advisories and removed restrictive guidance for their citizens visiting Assam,” Sarma said in a statement shared on social media.
The Chief Minister noted that the decision is likely to have a positive impact on several sectors, particularly tourism, trade and investment. He said the updated advisory will encourage more international travellers, business delegations and investors to explore opportunities in Assam.
Officials believe the move could help strengthen people-to-people exchanges while creating new avenues for collaboration in areas such as commerce, culture, education and sustainable development.
The announcement comes at a time when Assam is actively positioning itself as a major destination for global investment and tourism. In recent years, the state has focused on improving infrastructure, connectivity and ease of doing business while showcasing its natural, cultural and economic strengths to international partners.
Sarma also expressed gratitude to European Union Ambassador to India Hervé Delphin for his support in facilitating the process and advancing engagement between the EU and Assam.
The easing of travel advisories by the European Union follows similar decisions by Australia and Japan, indicating growing international recognition of Assam's efforts to strengthen security, infrastructure and economic opportunities.
Observers believe the latest development will further enhance Assam's profile on the global stage and support the state's ambitions to emerge as a key gateway for trade, tourism and international cooperation in India's Northeast region.
