Restoring Gurujona’s Birthplace
“We have taken all efforts to restore the sanctity and grandeur of Gurujona’s birth place,” CM Sarma stated, referring to the revered 15th-century saint-reformer Srimanta Sankardev, whom Assamese people affectionately call Gurujona.
Batadrava Than in Nagaon district holds immense religious and cultural significance as the birthplace of Sankardev, the founder of the Ekasarana Dharma and neo-Vaishnavite movement that shaped Assamese society and culture.
Major Heritage Project
The redevelopment project aims to transform Batadrava Than into a major spiritual and cultural destination while preserving its sacred character. The initiative reflects the state government’s focus on developing sites associated with Srimanta Sankardev’s life and legacy.
High-Profile Inauguration
Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to inaugurate the project underscores the national importance accorded to preserving Assam’s rich Vaishnavite heritage. The December 29 ceremony is expected to draw significant attention from devotees and dignitaries across the state.
The redeveloped Batadrava Than is anticipated to enhance pilgrim facilities while maintaining the spiritual essence of one of Assam’s most revered religious sites.
