Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) chief Hagrama Mohilary has announced the names of 22 candidates from a planned 40 for the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections in 2025, marking the party’s first major move ahead of the polls.Mohilary himself will contest from Debargaon, reaffirming his continued political influence in the BTC region. The candidate list reflects a mix of community leaders and experienced politicians, aimed at reclaiming ground in the Bodo heartland. The BPF, once a dominant political force in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), is eyeing a strong comeback in the 2025 BTC elections after losing power to the UPPL-BJP alliance in 2020. The party’s candidate announcement signals an early and aggressive campaign strategy aimed at reuniting the Bodo vote base. Among the prominent candidates announced are Moon Moon Brahma from Parbatjhora, Md. Antaj Ali from Guma, and Rabiram Narzary from Kachugaon—reflecting a conscious effort to maintain ethnic diversity within the ticket allocation. BPF has fielded candidates from both Bodo and non-Bodo communities to strengthen its multi-ethnic appeal. Several familiar faces feature in the list, including former ministers and long-time BPF leaders. In Dotma, the party has fielded Prakash Basumatary, while Dhaneswar Goyary will contest from Baokhungri.
