Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday chaired a comprehensive review meeting with officials of the Education Department to assess the progress of ongoing schemes, budgetary provisions and development initiatives across various education sectors in the state.

The meeting was attended by officials from the School Education, Secondary Education, Higher Education and Technical Education departments, along with representatives from the Finance Department. According to an update shared by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the discussions focused on strengthening educational infrastructure, improving implementation of welfare schemes and ensuring effective utilisation of budgetary allocations.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister reviewed budgetary provisions across different segments of the education sector and examined the status of various flagship initiatives being implemented by the state government.

Among the schemes discussed were the Nijut Moina and Nijut Babu programmes. The meeting also reviewed the progress of distributing free scooters, bicycles and textbooks to eligible students. The implementation of the free admission scheme was another key agenda item, with officials providing updates on its current status.

The review further covered the performance and development of Government Model Colleges and Tea Garden Model Schools. The Chief Minister assessed the progress of these institutions and discussed measures aimed at enhancing educational opportunities for students across the state.

Teacher recruitment drives across different categories also featured prominently during the discussions. The meeting examined ongoing recruitment efforts and explored strategies to strengthen the teaching workforce in educational institutions. In addition, officials deliberated on measures to reduce dropout rates in higher education and improve student retention.

Other important issues discussed included the creation of new posts in the education sector and the upgradation of high schools to the higher secondary level, aimed at expanding access to quality education.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Chief Minister Sarma directed all concerned departments to ensure the timely execution and effective implementation of ongoing schemes and initiatives. He stressed the importance of coordinated efforts to achieve the intended objectives of the government’s education programmes and improve educational outcomes across Assam.

The review meeting reflects the state government's continued focus on strengthening the education sector through targeted interventions, infrastructure development and student welfare measures.
