The Assam State Transport Corporation moved its head office to Rupnagar on Monday, marking a significant step in the state’s push to modernize public transportation infrastructure.
Transport Minister Charan Boro inaugurated the new headquarters in the presence of ASTC Chairman Pallab Lochan Das, Vice-Chairman Pranabjyoti Lahkar, and senior corporation officials.
During the inauguration ceremony, Boro announced that ASTC will induct 100 new buses into its fleet over the coming year. The Chief Minister is expected to formally launch new bus services designed to strengthen connectivity across Assam’s districts and towns.
The corporation has also set its sights on building a modern Inter-State Bus Terminal at Jalukbari. Preliminary work for the project is already underway, signaling the state’s commitment to creating world-class transit facilities.
The existing ISBT at Betkuchi will undergo upgrades to improve amenities for commuters, addressing long-standing concerns about passenger convenience at the busy terminal.
The relocation to Rupnagar represents more than just a change of address. With expanded fleet plans, new routes under consideration, and infrastructure upgrades in the pipeline, ASTC appears poised for a period of significant growth aimed at transforming how Assam’s residents travel within and beyond state borders.
