The Assam Rifles has started pre-recruitment training for Agniveer aspirants in Haflong, Dima Hasao district, to prepare local youth for entry into the armed forces.
According to a release issued on Monday, the training includes physical conditioning, written test preparation, medical awareness, personality development, and career guidance. A total of 53 young men and women — 15 girls and 38 boys — have enrolled in the first batch.
“The overwhelming response reflects the zeal of the local population to serve the nation and highlights the Assam Rifles’ role in fostering trust, confidence, and opportunities in the far-flung region,” the release said.
Alongside training new recruits, the Assam Rifles has also stepped up its outreach to retired personnel. Earlier this month, the force organised an Ex-Servicemen Interaction Meet at Udaipur Training Node to strengthen bonds with veterans and reaffirm its commitment to their welfare.
The meeting provided a platform for veterans to share their experiences and raise issues related to medical facilities, welfare claims, and dependent support. Officials said each grievance was documented with an assurance of time-bound resolution.
The session concluded with a renewed pledge to prioritise veteran welfare, strengthening ties between serving personnel and the retired fraternity.
On August 13, the Indian Army held a series of welfare programmes across Upper Assam, including Lekhapani, Digboi, and Rupai. The initiatives, dedicated to ex-servicemen and Veer Naris, aimed to address key concerns and pay tribute to their sacrifices.
Officials said such programmes highlight the dual commitment of the armed forces — to prepare the next generation of soldiers while ensuring continued care for those who have already served.
