Dr. Biswajit Choudhury, Assistant Professor (Selection Grade) of Political Science at Handique Girls’ College, Guwahati, represented India at the 28th World Congress of the International Political Science Association (IPSA) in Seoul, South Korea, held from July 12 to 16, 2025.
Participating as a panel chair, paper author, and oral presenter, Dr. Choudhury showcased his research on India’s Act East Policy, with a focus on Northeast India’s strategic role in fostering connectivity with South and Southeast Asia. His paper, titled “Globalising Northeast India through Act East Policy: An Overview,” explored the policy’s socio-economic and diplomatic dimensions.
The IPSA World Congress, convened biennially, is one of the most respected international forums for political science scholars and policy experts. Dr. Choudhury’s involvement was supported by a Travel Grant from the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi, under the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
According to officials, Dr. Choudhury’s presentation contributed significantly to placing Northeast India on the global academic map. “His research highlights how India’s Northeast can emerge as a vital node of regional cooperation and foreign policy integration,” said a senior academic from Handique Girls’ College.
The presentation also enhanced the international academic profile of Handique Girls’ College and reflected Assam’s rising prominence in global scholarly discourse. By critically examining policy frameworks through a regional lens, Dr. Choudhury’s work aligns with broader national efforts to integrate the Northeast into global strategic dialogues.
