Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared the state on high alert over concerns about Bangladeshi infiltrators, vowing that operations to expel illegal migrants will continue unabated.
“Assam is on high alert. Bangladeshi infiltrators are settling in Assam, and Hindus are being murdered in broad daylight in Bangladesh. The operation to expel the infiltrators will continue,” CM Sarma stated.
असम सतर्क है। असम में बांग्लादेशी घुसपैठिए बस रहे हैं और बांग्लादेश में हिंदुओं की दिनदहाड़े हत्या हो रही है।

Heightened Border Vigilance
The Chief Minister’s statement signals intensified surveillance along Assam’s border with Bangladesh as authorities monitor potential illegal crossings. The alert comes amid deteriorating conditions for minorities in the neighbouring country following political upheaval.
Brutal Lynching Sparks Outrage
CM Sarma’s declaration follows the horrific mob lynching of 27-year-old Hindu garment worker Dipu Chandra Das in Bhaluka, Mymensingh district, on December 18. The young man was accused of blasphemy without any evidence, beaten by a mob, and his body set on fire and hung from a tree.
Factory supervisors had forced Dipu to resign amid the allegations around 4 PM and briefly sheltered him. However, when a mob broke into the premises at 8:45 PM during a shift change, they handed him over to the attackers.
A traffic jam along the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway delayed police response, allowing more locals to join the assault. Bangladesh’s Rapid Action Battalion subsequently found no proof of blasphemy, describing the attack as planned over several hours.
Continued Anti-Infiltration Operations
The state government has maintained aggressive anti-infiltration operations along Assam’s porous border. CM Sarma’s high alert declaration indicates further escalation of border security measures amid mounting concerns over minority persecution in Bangladesh.
