In a major boost to Assam’s industrial and agricultural infrastructure, the Assam Valley Fertilizer and Chemical Company Limited (AVFCCL) has been officially incorporated as a joint venture (JV) company between the Government of Assam and strategic partners.
The development marks a critical step toward reviving and operationalising the long-awaited Ammonia-Urea Complex in Namrup, a key project announced earlier by the Government of India to boost fertilizer production in the Northeast.
Announcing the milestone, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma shared on social media:
“Pleased to share that the Assam Valley Fertilizer And Chemical Company Limited (AVFCCL) has been incorporated as a JV company of Govt of Assam and other partners. This company will power up and realise the dream of the Ammonia Urea Complex in Namrup.”

The new fertilizer unit is expected to play a transformative role in reviving the region’s industrial ecosystem, creating employment, and ensuring fertilizer self-sufficiency for Assam and neighboring states. It also aligns with Assam’s broader ambition of emerging among the top five states in India in terms of economic growth and industrial output.
CM Sarma emphasized that AVFCCL will be instrumental in energising the state’s industrial landscape, unlocking new opportunities in sectors like agriculture, petrochemicals, and logistics. The move also reflects Assam’s proactive push toward strategic partnerships and infrastructure-led development.
