The bereaved families expressed their deep gratitude to CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma over the phone for his compassion, generosity, and unwavering support during this time of sorrow.

These initiatives are not merely administrative gestures but a sincere reflection of the Assam Government’s deep respect, gratitude, and responsibility toward those who laid down their lives in the service of the nation.

On April 22, 2025, a tragic terrorist attack occurred in the Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam, Anantnag district, Jammu & Kashmir. Five militants, armed with M4 carbines and AK-47s and dressed in military-style uniforms, infiltrated the scenic meadow—a popular tourist destination accessible only by foot or horseback. The attackers opened fire on a group of tourists, resulting in the deaths of 26 individuals, including 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen. Many others sustained serious injuries in the assault.

Investigations by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) indicated that the attack was orchestrated by the Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), with support from Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and elements of the Pakistani Army. The NIA identified Sheikh Sajjad Gul, a 50-year-old Kashmiri and leader of LeT’s proxy outfit The Resistance Front (TRF), as the mastermind behind the attack. Gul, operating under the alias Sajjad Ahmed Sheikh, is currently based in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, under the protection of LeT.
