In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Sarma said the installation of the statue “reestablishes the strong connection between Netaji and Assam.” He added that the tribute reflects the state’s enduring respect for Bose’s vision and sacrifice.
The unveiling ceremony comes as part of Assam’s broader efforts to commemorate icons of India’s freedom movement and highlight their historic links to the Northeast. Officials said the statue in Silchar is intended to serve as both a cultural landmark and an inspiration for future generations.
Bose, who led the Indian National Army in the fight against British rule, is widely revered across the country. In Assam, his legacy has particular resonance due to the INA’s campaigns in the region during World War II.
