In a significant move for wildlife conservation and tourism, the Cabinet gave final approval to the sixth addition to the Kaziranga National Park, increasing its area by 47,3.6.33 hectares. The long-awaited expansion—originally proposed in 1985—is expected to enhance biodiversity protection and further strengthen Kaziranga’s global ecological importance.
₹209 Crore Boost for Khanikar Stadium, Dibrugarh
The Cabinet sanctioned ₹209.13 crore to upgrade Khanikar Stadium in Dibrugarh into Assam’s largest stadium. The revamped stadium will boast a 35,000-seat capacity, positioning it as a prime venue for national and international sports and cultural events.
New Assam Legislative Assembly Complex in Dibrugarh
A budget of ₹284.03 crore has been approved for constructing a new Assam Legislative Assembly complex in Dibrugarh. This move signals the government’s plan to expand institutional infrastructure in upper Assam.
Wage Hike for Tea Garden Workers
In a pro-worker decision, the daily wages of tea garden workers under the Assam Tea Corporation will be hiked to ₹250, effective October 1, 2025. The increase aims to improve the livelihood of thousands of workers who form the backbone of Assam’s tea industry.
Assam to Build a ‘Concert Economy’
In an innovative cultural push, the state will promote music and performance arts by developing concert venues in Guwahati, Dibrugarh, and Jorhat. A major music concert is scheduled in Guwahati this December, encouraging healthy competition with neighboring states like Meghalaya and boosting Assam’s cultural economy.
Equity Infusion for NRL
The Cabinet has approved the release of ₹205.725 crore for the fourth and final phase of Assam Government’s authorized equity investment in Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL). With this, the Assam Government will complete its previously committed investment of ₹823 crore for NRL’s expansion.
Promotion of Solar Energy Generation
To fully harness the state’s solar energy potential, the Assam Cabinet has approved the ‘Assam Solar Energy Generation Promotion Policy 2025’. Through this policy, the government aims to achieve a solar capacity of 3,500 MW by 2030 and attract both private and public investments to create approximately 1,500 job opportunities in the state.
Upgradation of Lachit Barphukan Police Academy
The Cabinet has granted administrative approval for ₹229.41 crore for the second phase of development of the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy. The government has set a target to complete this project within an estimated two years.
Policy Change on Personal Security Officers (PSOs)
A key administrative decision was made regarding Personal Security Officers. Individuals opting for PSO services due to perceived threats must now bear the cost of the officer’s salary, introducing a user-pays policy to rationalize security provisions.
