Several crucial decisions have been taken by the Assam cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Bisawa sarma on July, 18

. In the Assam Cabinet meeting, the cabinet approves rupees 839.95 cr for the formation of 5 new commando battalions. The newly approved battalions to be stationed in sensitive areas will boost Assam Police’s capabilities in dealing with and will play a vital role in counter-insurgency operations.

These 5 newly approved battalions are –

  1. 2nd Assam Commando Bn (Ops) which will be located at – Birsima, Hilakandi

  2. 3rd Assam Commando Bn (Ops) which will be located at – Doldoli, Karbi Anglong

  3. 4th Assam Commando Bn (Ops) which will be located at – Geleky, Sivasagar

  4. 5th Assam Commando Bn (Urban Ops and Law & Order) which will be located at pabhoi, Biswanath

  5. 6th Assam Commando Bn (Urban Ops and Law & Order) which will be located at Ambikapur, Sadiya
