The sacred Nilachal Hills have transformed into a sea of devotion as the annual Ambubachi Mahayog begins at the revered Maa Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati. Lakhs of devotees, saints, sadhus, and spiritual seekers from across India and abroad have gathered to witness one of the most significant spiritual events in the country.
Ambubachi Mela marks the annual menstruation cycle of Goddess Kamakhya and symbolizes the divine feminine power, fertility, and creation. During this sacred period, the temple doors remain closed for three days, signifying the Goddess's annual retreat, before reopening with elaborate rituals and prayers.
The temple complex and surrounding areas are witnessing an extraordinary influx of pilgrims, with chants of devotion echoing through the hills. Long queues, colorful camps of ascetics, and the presence of spiritual practitioners from diverse traditions have created a unique atmosphere of faith and cultural harmony.
As one of the largest religious congregations in Northeast India, Ambubachi Mela continues to celebrate Assam’s rich spiritual heritage while drawing devotees united by devotion, belief, and reverence for the Divine Mother.
