The All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Guwahati has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first institution in Northeast India to receive accreditation as an Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) provider centre.
The institute conducted its inaugural ATLS provider course from December 12 to 14, marking a new chapter in structured trauma education for the region.
Eminent Faculty Mark Occasion
Prof. MC Mishra, Chair of ATLS India and former Director of AIIMS New Delhi, attended the inaugural event to commemorate the landmark achievement. Eminent ATLS faculty members from across the country participated, lending expertise to strengthen the initiative.
Focus on Golden Hour Intervention
The accreditation represents a major advancement in disseminating standardised trauma management principles across the Northeast. The programme emphasizes effective intervention during the “golden hour”—the critical window that significantly determines trauma survival and patient outcomes.
Rigorous Training Structure
Each ATLS course at AIIMS Guwahati enrolls 16 delegates and follows a comprehensive training module. The programme comprises two days of intensive hands-on and didactic sessions, followed by formal assessment on the third day, strictly adhering to ATLS guidelines.
Commitment to Regional Healthcare
“Through this initiative, AIIMS Guwahati has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing trauma care capacity in the Northeast by ensuring sustained ATLS training, thereby contributing to improved emergency response, better patient outcomes, and a reduction in trauma-related mortality across the region,” the institute stated.
The accreditation positions AIIMS Guwahati as a regional hub for trauma education, addressing a critical gap in emergency medical training infrastructure in the northeastern states.
