Top government officials across India have initiated a series of high-level security meetings to address growing concerns along the country’s international borders, particularly the India-Bangladesh and India-Pakistan boundaries.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha held an extensive security meeting at his residence on Friday, focusing primarily on strengthening surveillance along the state’s border with Bangladesh. The meeting, which lasted over an hour, brought together senior officials from the Border Security Force (BSF), Assam Rifles, and various intelligence agencies.
Parallel Meeting in Delhi
Simultaneously in New Delhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah convened a high-level meeting at his residence to review the overall border situation and assess security arrangements at airports across the country. The hour-long discussion began at 12:30 pm and included key security officials:
- Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan
- Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka
- BSF Director General Daljit Chawdhary
- CISF Director General RS Bhatti
- Bureau of Civil Aviation Security Director General Rajesh Nirwan
This meeting follows Shah’s Thursday night discussions with the Director Generals of all border guarding forces, where he reviewed the operational readiness of security agencies.
Response to Recent Developments
The heightened security measures come in the wake of escalating tensions along India’s borders. According to reports, Pakistan launched a significant missile and drone attack targeting India’s Jammu region and Rajasthan on Thursday night, including areas such as Satwari, Samba, RS Pura, Arnia, and Jaisalmer.
In response, the BSF conducted a major security operation along the India-Pakistan border early Friday, thwarting an infiltration attempt in the Samba Sector of the Jammu Frontier and neutralizing seven terrorists.
Comprehensive Security Review
The back-to-back meetings reflect growing concerns over border security amid the volatile regional situation. Security experts note that the comprehensive review of both land borders and airport security indicates a coordinated approach to addressing potential threats from multiple directions.
“We are examining all aspects of border security and implementing necessary measures to ensure the safety of our citizens,” a senior security official stated on condition of anonymity.
The security meetings coincide with recent reports of drone sightings near the India-Bangladesh border in Assam, adding another dimension to the complex security landscape facing authorities.
Officials have indicated that enhanced surveillance technologies, increased personnel deployment, and improved coordination between various security agencies will form the cornerstone of the reinforced security strategy moving forward.
