BTC Elections Scheduled for September 22, Counting on September 26

26.57 lakh voters to participate; 30 seats reserved for STs, MCC enforced across Bodoland Territorial Region

The Assam State Election Commission has announced that elections to the 40-member Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC Elections) will be held on September 22, 2025, State Election Commissioner Ranjan Sarma confirmed on Tuesday.

According to the schedule, the last date for filing nominations is September 2, while scrutiny will take place on September 4. Candidates will be allowed to withdraw their nominations until September 6. Polling will be conducted on September 22 from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, followed by counting of votes on September 26 from 8:00 AM onwards. The entire election process is set to conclude by September 28.

The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has come into effect immediately across the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), which includes the districts of Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Udalguri, and Tamulpur.

A total of 26,57,937 voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in this election, comprising 13,23,399 males, 13,34,521 females, and 17 voters of other genders. Of the 40 council seats, 30 are reserved for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates, five for non-ST candidates, while the remaining five are open to both ST and non-ST candidates.

The BTC elections hold major political significance for the governance and development of the Bodoland Territorial Region, ensuring representation for its diverse communities and shaping the course of its administration for the coming years.
