Political parties are intensifying preparations for the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council elections (BTC elections). On Saturday, the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) released its second list of candidates, announcing names for 10 council constituencies. Previously, the party had already published a list of candidates for 22 constituencies. The BPF is yet to declare candidates for the remaining 8 constituencies of the 40-member BTC council.
Similarly, the Indian National Congress also announced its first list of candidates for the BTC election on Saturday, naming candidates for 31 constituencies.
The State Election Commission has already issued the notification for the BTC election, with polling scheduled for September 22. The voter list has been finalized, and details of the total number of voters across constituencies in Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Tamulpur, and Udalguri districts have been released.
In preparation for the election, the ruling United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and other political parties have also ramped up their campaign efforts. This election is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the political future of the Bodoland region.
